JIM Weeks Graduated from VTC with an AS in Civil Engineering in 1970 moved to Boston and earned a BS from Northeastern in Industrial Technology. Later an MBA from Southern NH University. Worked 24 years with Stone & Webster Engineering as a design draftsman, New England Telephone as an Outside Plan Engineer and Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in various Sales, Marketing and management roles. While at DEC completed executive management programs at Harvard and MIT. Moved to Utah in 1996 to start a computer software company working in that industry for 10 years and completed my career with Willis Towers Watson retiring in 2016. VTC Traveled to Australia and Hawaii as part of an awards program with DEC enjoying the land down under and the Hawaiian Isles. I flew into NYC/JFK on 911. From the Cab and from a distance I saw the smoke coming from one of the towers thinking it was a power plant. Until the Cabbie informed us a plane had stuck one of the towers. Then a few minutes later that a second plane had hit the other tower. My coworker traveling with me said “what a terrible accident.” I instinctively responded, “that is no accident!” As we crawled across the 49th Street Bridge I saw the towers engulfed in smoke, wondering how people would get out. At the chaotic hotel we experienced the escalating horrors of the day seeing it get worse after thinking how can this get any worse. We spent the next 3 days holed up in our hotel room until we could get flights out and back home. I developed a new admiration for New Yorkers from observations and interactions over those 3 days, although I still HATE the Yankees. Boston, Framingham and Marlboro MA; Pembroke and Loudon NH and American Fork and Manti Utah. Moved to Manti Utah after retiring in 2016. My birth date was drawn 315th the first year of the draft. So No. Whether that was fortunate or unfortunate only God knows! First paid job was with Green Mountain Power (summer job) followed by the VT Highway Dept. as concrete inspector, then a surveyor and Road Construction Inspector on the State road that went by Betsy Patterson's house. Happily, retired Married Paula Sue Jesseman from Piermont NH in 1973. Sue graduated from Bradford Academy in 1968. Met her through a VTC classmate from Bradford while living in Boston. She was attending nursing school at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford, MA while I was attending Northeastern and working for Stone & Webster Engineering in downtown Boston. We have 4 daughters. Karie, 42 is an Attorney for Amazon in Seattle, who got married in 2017. Amy, 40 former Cosmetology Instructor and now stay at home Mom for Isaiah 9 and Evelyn 7 (2 of my 3 grandchildren). Emily, 38 owner/operator of Glen's Barber Shop, formerly owned by my wife for 16 years. Emily also got married in 2017. Jennifer, 34 Medical Retrieval Specialist. Jen her husband and Grandson Gage live with us in Manti, UT. We were foster parents to 9 children, including 5 at one time --the hardest thing we have ever done! My wife is a retired RN and Barber. She is currently Director of the Manti Humanitarian Center, They make quilts, blankets, clothing, toys and other items for the needy throughout North America, the Caribbean and Mexico. Avid Ham Radio operator with call sign N1LGQ. Hiking, fishing, hunting, gardening, rock hounding, being a good neighbor, genealogy, family history and church volunteer service. A member of the Utah County Sheriff's Office communications team and the Timpanogos Emergency Response Team since 2010, aiding hikers on Mt. Timp, the second highest peak in Utah (11,750'). We moved to Montpelier from Burlington the summer between my Junior and Senior year, after living in Burlington for 11 years. Although a very critical time to make a change in one’s life, I consider the move and its consequential experience adapting to a new school and forging new friendships to be one of the greatest and most positive experiences in my life. It taught me how to adapt, adjust, fit in and deal with change with a positive attitude. My motto ever since has been that “Life is Plan B.” Plan B has always been a very positive, rewarding and pleasant surprise. Change has forever been a constant in my personal and professional life. Mr. Rocchio, who suggested I take on a role in the school play. Something WAY out of my comfort zone. I was quiet, shy, highly reserved and frankly a pathetic English student due to moderate case of ADD, which I didn’t discover until I was over 40. Too shy and embarrassed to say no I acquiesced and did it. It taught me some important things about myself. Versatility, the ability to step out of your comfort zone and act different than your native personality can be learned and developed…and the fears of doing something challenging were highly exaggerated. A skill that paid great dividends throughout my personal and professional life. Get drafted by the Red Sox. It was on my bucket list till 2007. In 1973 my wife and I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) and have been active ever since. I consider it one of the greatest decisions/experiences of my life... Along with marrying my wife, moving to Montpelier, playing softball for the Montpelier Independents in the VT State Championships, playing baseball for Barre Legion in 1968 & 1969 and working for DEC. The Now picture is from July 2017 at my daughters wedding of me and my brother Frank. 2018-02-01 17:30:32
