Madeleine Kingston After MHS, I was a waitress at the Brown Derby Restaurant. I went to Oberlin (Ohio) College, where I majored in music. From there to Cologne, Germany, for further studies. I lived there for four years and traveled to Amsterdam, Paris, northern Italy, Vienna, Prague and other places. During my Buffalo years, thanks to my sister Abby, we discovered our Jewish roots. I have been a practicing religious Jew for more than half of my life and feel very blessed. I've lived in a lot of places, but everywhere I lived I have taught piano and performed. I met Don Montalto there [in Europe], and when we both moved back to the States, we got married and had a child, Leah, my one and only. She is an artist. We lived in Brookline, Mass, and then in Buffalo, NY. We got divorced, and a few years later, I married Daniel Grunauer. We lived in Buffalo, then Cleveland, OH, and in 2004 we came to Israel, to live in Jerusalem. Sadly, after 26 years of marriage, he passed away in 2012, but I am blessed to have met Moshe Cohen, and we have been married for three years. He has a large family including many grandchildren, and yes, great-grandchildren as well, so I became a great-grandmother when we got married! They are a wonderful family and welcomed me with open arms. Other activities that I enjoy are cooking and baking. I have dabbled in knitting, drawing and creative writing. Montpelier High was a wonderful place to go to school, set as it is in the beautiful Green Mountains. I used to enjoy the view of the mountains as I walked on College Street on my way to school. There were so many wonderful teachers who encouraged us to learn. I remember Mademoiselle Augot, and speaking French for 45 minutes, 5 times a week; Mr. Farnsworth with his warmth; and Miss Myshak, who wisely looked at our Physics class of 18, and said we'll be forming lab groups of three. Nancy Mix, Margaret Dubay and I looked at each other desperately for one brief second, and then with great relief became a group. I am indebted to Mr. Anderson and Mr. Mix for the excellent music education, and all the opportunities I had to use my talents. It's been a pleasure reading about you, and I wish everyone happiness and success. 2018-05-15 09:40:48
